SWIFTECH MCXC370

This may be the world's coolest heatsink when it comes to looks. It is definitely one of the worlds best heatsinks when it comes to performance. There has been a buzz going around about this heatsink, and we at Idigital Technologies got to the bottom of the buzz. And when we say bottom, we mean the bottom of the thermometer. First, lets take a look at how this heatsink is designed, shall we..

Now when you look at the heatsink, it kind of jumps out at you and being cool looking, but remember the first Orb's?...They looked cool as well, but they really didn't do a very good job at cooling. So rule number 1, just because it looks cool doesn't mean it will run cool.. And we will soon find out just what this baby can do. The MCXC370 is made up of a solid copper base, and aluminum pins that kind of resemble something from the Hell Raiser movies. If you look below you will notice that the pins, or "helicoids" aren't just plain old pins. They actually have threads spun around them that makes them look like a screw..

These threads actually double the surface area of the pins. What this means in plain English, is that you have twice the amount of metal being exposed to the airstream that removes the heat. They also make for a wicked design. I must say that, these pins are embedded into the copper base pretty good. This heatsink is not flimsy at all. The quality is awesome. Also in the above picture you will notice that there some rubber spacer sitting between the fan and the pins. These spacers help keep the noise down and also create a separation between the pins and the fan that creates a performance increase....These guys really did their homework on this one! Here's the formula.... Temperature = Airflow/Net weight x E= ECM2/1/2 of the world's gravitation pull x the dryness of your mom's thanksgiving turkey + ......Well, nevermind, its pretty complicated, but it works. :)

Now the next thing we see is the sweetest clip design that we have seen. No more slipping of the screwdriver and scratching your motherboard.....Not that I have ever done this :) ..... This design should be made law. It was very simple to place this heatsink the CPU. You simply loosen the clips by screwing down the screw that is seen in the above picture. This allows the clips to be moved outward. You then simply place the heatsink on your CPU and then screw the screws upward to tighten your clips. It is very simply, and safer than most heatsinks out there.  Now, to the results!!!

Test System:
AMD Athlon 1.4Ghz, Asus A7M266, 256MBDDR, GeForce 3, 40GB ATA100 HD, 300Watt PS.

What can we say?! The Swiftech MCXC370 is an awesome heatsink. It is clearly one of the best heatsinks out there. The temperature that we have posted were not an average, we used the highest temperature that was registered in each test. These results were gained with the standard Papst fan. You can place a delta fan on this unit to get even cooler temps, but as you can see from above, you really don't have to. This fan retails for about $45. In our opinion, the MCXC370 is well worth it. The quality is just pure greatness. I haven't seen a heatsink so well built. We tip our tech hats to the guys at Swiftech for a fine heatsink.
